April 2013

Christian is still making crafty creations. This is a snowman Superman, of course.
He made this on April 1st. We didn't have very many tricks that day, but Faith did come in to my office while I was at work and ask why dad was still at home. I worried for a second that he might be staying home sick from work, but then she followed it up with, "April fools!"

On the third Tony really did take off from work and we went to Salt Lake to have fun. We started by looking at the exhibits at the planetarium. This guy was there doing a bunch of really cool science experiments.
He put a racquetball into liquid nitrogen, then bounced it and it shattered everywhere. He hated up a tile from a space shuttle with a blow torch and lettuce feel the opposite side to demonstrate its insulating ability. He even put a ringing alarm clock in a vacuum and showed us that sound needs air to travel on. Very cool!!

Next we went to eat at Tocano's. Because of their ages, Christian was free and Faith only six dollars, and Tony got his lunch for free because it was his birthday month. We all stuffed ourselves with delicious Brazilian barbecue for only $20. It seemed like Christian nearly ate his weight in meat!

We did a bit of shopping at the gateway,

then went to the movies and saw "The Croods."

We ended the fun day by taking skittles to the park.

The morning of April 4 I must have made bacon for breakfast because I found this picture on my phone.

Tony took another day off of work so we could hang out at baby animal days at the American W. Heritage Center in Wellsville.

We got to pet a lot of cute animals & the weather was perfect.

The only bad part was that it was extremely busy and we had to wait in a bunch of long lines. It was over an hour wait to see the bear cubs!

We ate a late lunch of soup at Zupa's and I had to resort to this selfie to get in a picture.

That night we got a pet Beta fish and the kids named him Leo, short for Leonardo. Named after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, not the artist :/

On the 7th we went to Lagoon again. We tried out the new Teacup ride and thought it was okay, but not as fun as the one at Disneyland.

April 11th Faith had an orthodontist appointment, so since we were in the neighborhood, we stopped by the bread store for a treat.

We also stopped by Macey's, but Eric had taken the day off.

After work on the 20th I took Faith to our cousin Kami's baby shower. They had crepes to eat and the cutest decorations and candy bar!

The kids are always excited when there's orange chicken for school lunch, and on the 25th I joined them. They have lunch right after one another, so I stayed for both lunches!

I love Buddy's notes that he uses to communicate with me while I'm working. These are supposed to read, "Mom, when are you going to be off of work? When?"

I've been teaching the kids how to put gass in the car and they're getting pretty good at it.

Grandma and Grandpa Peterson came to watch the kids' soccer games on the 27th.

We celebrated Tony's 42nd birthday on the 28th.

On the 29th I decided to have a Huey Lewis and the News dance party while we cleaned the house. The kids loved the music and drew pictures of what they thought Huey Lewis looked like:

On the 30th I chaperoned Christian's field trip to Discovery Gateway.

It was a lot of fun, but it was crazy trying to keep track of my six assigned kids as they were running around in different directions all over that place!

Since his field trip was early and we got to spend the afternoon together while Faith was at school, we decided to go out to lunch.

We tried out Mandarin Cafe on Main Street in Kaysville by BC Chicken. We didn't love the orange chicken, but Buddy loved the egg-drop soup, as you can see.

I even got him a gluten-free cupcake from Sweet Cake Bake Shop just to try it out. He loved it!

Tony got a big movie-theater style popcorn maker for his birthday, so this day Christian decided to sell popcorn instead of doing a lemonade stand. He was very successful at it :)

When I was updating our artwork wall, I snapped a pic of these cute handprint pictures that we did as an art project on MLK day.
The kids had that day and the next off from school and I volunteer in Christians class every Wednesday. As I was sorting through turned in homework packets and trading out baggy books, I heard Mrs. Piper ask if any of the children knew about Martin Luther King Jr. and I was pretty proud of myself for not only doing a craft, but also having a lengthy discussion on his life and racial equality. I even had the kids watch the "I have a dream" speech online.

I was cut back down to size when none of the children raised their hand, not even Christian. Later that afternoon when he got home from school, I asked why he didn't speak up. He replied that he "can't remember things that many days ago!"
